KUALA TERENGGANU: The Terengganu Health Department has urged parents and guardians to seek immunisation injections for their children to avoid infectious diseases including diphtheria.
Its director, Dr Mohamad Omar said parents must be aware on the need for such injections because they could protect children from being exposed to numerous diseases and plagues.
He said 85 children did not get full immunisation injection and protection from January to March this year compared to only 72 the previous year.
"The number is very worrying because it is showing a significant increase since 2013 (22) and 2014 (47).
"We hope they are more sensitive about the matter to ensure diphtheria cases do not proliferate and to prevent infection," he said when contacted today.
On June 18, a seven-year-old child died in Malacca due to diphtheria and on June 22, a two-year-old toddler died in Kedah from the same infection and according to the Health Ministry they did not get complete immunisation. — Bernama
