KTM Komuter Service general manager Azsnidah Shah Shahari said the additional trains, however, would only involve Butterworth-Padang Besar-Butterworth route, and would enable the waiting time to be reduced to only one hour from the current two.
"On normal days, we provide 14 train services, involving the three routes, namely Butterworth-Padang Besar-Butterworth, Butterworth-Gurun-Butterworth, and Butterworth-Kamunting-Butterworth, but for Aidilfitri this year, we will provide six additional trains for the Butterworth-Padang Besar-Butterworth route.
"Passengers on normal days numbered around 3,000 daily, but it is expected to double up during the festive season.
"It is hoped that with the 20 trains to be make available from July 1 to 10, the increased number of passengers will be well accommodated," she told reporters after attending KTM's Ihya' Ramadhan programme at the Sungai Petani KTM station here today.
The programme, held with the cooperation from Seri Malaysia Hotel and Yusuf Taiyoob Sdn Bhd, saw 1,000 packs of "bubuk lambuk" (savoury porridge) and dates be distributed to KTM passengers and members of the public. — Bernama
