KOTA BARU: Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin's (pix) decision not to appeal against his sacking from Umno shows he is no longer interested in staying with the party, said supreme council member Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi.
"Umno is always open to appeals from members but Muhyiddin did not take the opportunity to do so.
"The question about Muhyiddin not getting any show cause letter from the supreme council or Umno's disciplinary board also does not arise as he knew the limitations for its issuance.
"He said Umno is his flesh and blood but why did he not appeal; that's why I feel he knew that he had crossed the line," said Mohd Puad, who felt that Muhyiddin was no longer interested in being with Umno in its struggle.
"If he feels that it was unfair, he should appeal on why he was not issued a show cause letter, as he had been a deputy president and management committee chairman handling many discipline cases," he told reporters at an event held here on Sunday night.
On Friday, the supreme council sacked Muhyiddin and former Kedah mentri besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir for breach of discipline, while Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal's membership was suspended pending a report from the party's disciplinary board.
Meanwhile in KANGAR, Perlis Umno expressed full support for the supreme council's decision.
State liaison chief Datuk Seri Dr Shahidan Kassim said Perlis Umno was forced to make the decision, "as Muhyiddin and Mukhriz had helped to campaign for the opposition in the Kuala Kangsar and Sungai Besar parliamentary by-elections".
Umno could not compromise as Muhyiddin and Mukhriz had breached party discipline, he told reporters after presenting Aidilfitri contributions to party members in the Kangar, Arau and Padang Besar divisions here, on Sunday night. — Bernama
