Pahang mufti: I will not retract my statement

PETALING JAYA: Pahang mufti Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Osman (pix) says he will not retract his "kafir harbi" (non-Muslim infidels) statement as it does not contradict Islamic fatwa.
"I will not retract the statement I made, because it does not contradict with our religious teachings. And it is not right for people to say I am calling for hostility between the Muslims and non-Muslims.
"I am not calling for it, and I have no intention of doing so. What I said was not wrong, and it my right to speak about my religion," he said when contacted by theSun today.
Abdul Rahman admitted to have used the term "kafir harbi" to refer to anyone who are against Islam, but said it did not necessarily mean those who are fighting or shedding blood against the religion, but can also refer to those who slander it.
He said the issue of hudud, for example, had been taken out of context by DAP and other individuals who have been finding fault in its proposed implementation.
On the police report made against him, Abdul Rahman said as a mufti, he can not be challenged by any laws in the country as whatever he said was in accordance to the fatwa.
PKR Youth's religious bureau chief and Muslim preacher Wan Ji Wan Hussin today morning lodged a report at Dang Wangi police headquarters over Abdul Rahman's proclamation of DAP as "kafir harbi".
He said the latter's statement is a serious matter that warrants the attention of the poluce, adding that recent threats by terrorist group Islamic State makes the statement even more worrying.
DAP's Puchong MP Gobind Singh Deo, meanwhile, has urged Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar to state his and the police's stand on the matter.
"I think the question at the uppermost of many people's mind is whether or not the IGP agrees with the Mufti? If he does not, the question is what does he propose to do about it then?" he said in a Facebook posting.
In George Town, DAP Secretary-General Lim Guan Eng branded MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai a "coward" for remaining mum over the issue.
"The fact that Liow does not dare take a stand, I think it shows the level of his courage, or his cowardice. What's the point if the leader does not say (something)?" Lim told a press conference today.
