Mufti’s statement 'dangerous': Badrul

PETALING JAYA: Solidariti Anak Muda Malaysia (SAMM) chief Badrul Hisham Shaharin has invited Pahang mufti Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Osman to be part of an open discussion with representatives from DAP and an acclaimed academician as the other panellist.
In a statement today, Badrul said the discussion will serve as an opportunity to "introduce a new style of politics" and give the public a chance to listen to the debate to gain a better understanding of the issue.
He added that the mufti's statement was "very very dangerous" as based upon the general understanding of the "kafir harbi" term, it refers to a group that must be fought against, and some believe it is permissible to kill them.
"This is a chance for the Pahang Mufti to defend his allegation and DAP leaders will also be able to deliver their own responses," he said.
Meanwhile, DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang claimed that the state mufti's statement is even more dangerous and poses "a greater threat" than a Malaysian Islamic State (IS) militant who had recently threatened police personnel in Bukit Aman in a propaganda video.
In the video, Rafi also urged IS supporters to employ whatever means necessary to kill non-believers.
Lim argued that while Bukit Aman's Special Branch Counter-Terrorism Division is prepared for IS threats, Malaysia is defenceless against what he called "ISIS-minded religious officials" who are preaching similar doctrines.
He also urged Cabinet members to address the issue as it is a serious attack on the constitution and nation-building process.
