Unemployed man fined RM2,000 for hurting wife

KUALA LUMPUR: An unemployed man was fined RM2,500 in default of five months' jail, by the Magistrate's Court here today for causing hurt to his wife two days ago.
Magistrate Ahmad Solihin Abd Wahid meted out the sentence on Mohammad Shahrul Roshdee Mat Saad, 37, who pleaded guilty to hurting Siti Hanim Basri, 39, at their house in Flat Sri Selangor, Jalan San Peng, Dang Wangi, here at 4pm on June 26.
The charge, under Section 323 of the Penal Code, provides an imprisonment for up to two years, or fine of up to RM2,000, or both, upon conviction.
During mitigation, Mohammad Shahrul, who was unrepresented, asked for a light sentence as he is currently looking for a job.
Deputy public prosecutor Noorelynna Hanim Abd Halim said that as a husband he should be in control of his emotions and be an example to his wife and children, and urged to court to give a deterrent sentence. — Bernama
