Marine police corporal charged with accepting RM200 bribe

BUTTERWORTH: A marine police corporal pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here today to a bribery charge, involving RM200.
Norhazeni Ahmad, 38, made the plea after the charge was read out to him before Judge Roslan Hamid.
He was alleged to have accepted the bribe as an inducement for him to not take action against a man who collected mussel without a permit at a food stall area near the Queensbay Mall roundabout, Bayan Lepas here at 10.20 pm on May 26 last year.
Norhazeni, who is with Region 1 Marine Police in Batu Uban, was charged under Section 17(a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act, which provides an imprisonment for up to 20 years and fine not less the five times the amount of bribe involved or RM10,000, whichever is higher, if found guilty.
Deputy public prosecutor from MACC, Amin Yaacub, who prosecuted offered bail at RM10,000 in one surety.
Roslan set bail at RM10,000 in one surety and fixed Aug 29 for mention. — Bernama
