Kelantan MMEA detain foreign fishermen for illegal fishing

PASIR PUTEH: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) eastern region detained a foreign vessel with six fishermen near Pasir Puteh on Monday for fishing illegally in the national waters.
Kelantan MMEA director Maritime Kapt Nurul Hizam Zakaria said the foreign fishermen, aged between 28 to 50 years, were arrested while fishing 105 nautical miles from Pantai Tok Bali, Pasir Puteh, at 6.05pm.
The total assets, including equipment and fish catches worth RM1.2 million, were also seized, he said when contacted here today.
In another development, he said MMEA also detained two boats and 14 foreign fishermen, aged 28 to 58 years, in two separate locations, at 14 nautical miles and 100 nautical miles from Pantai Tok Bali, on June 22 for fishing illegally in the national waters.
"MMEA will continue to patrol the waters even during Hari Raya Aidilfitri," he said. — Bernama
