PETALING JAYA: Indah Water Konsortium (IWK) and its contractors will be asked to redo some of the road resurfacing jobs that were badly done.
Petaling Jaya mayor Mohd Azizi Mohd Zain said if they do not do so, then the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) will not hesitate to deduct certain amount of the deposit these contractors have with MBPJ.
"It is the responsibility of IWK's contractors to resurface the roads within a certain period of time after the completion of their project at the area.
"If they fail to resurface within the time frame given then we would ask our panel of contractors to get the job done after which we would deduct it from the deposit made," Mohd Azizi told reporters after chairing the city council's full-board meeting today.
He explained that this drastic move is necessary after the council had received complaints from residents that IWK's contractors take a long time to do the road resurfacing.
"We will ensure the job is done until it is up to par," he added.
Mohd Azizi then revealed that the city council has allocated some RM30 million for the Road Resurfacing Project where the allocation would be utilised in 31 projects in various areas in PJ.
"Of the 31 projects, we have completed 17 of them, 13 are still ongoing and one is in its re-offering stage.
"Some of the areas involved in the projects are Jalan Universiti, Jalan Gasing, Persiaran Cemara and Persiaran Industri Sri Damansara, Persiaran Mahogani and Kota Damansara," he said.
He added that areas like SS1, SS3, SS21, SS26, Sec 20, Sec 21, PJU 1, PJS 1, PJS 2 and PJS 6 are also among the areas involved in the project which would be using the mill and pave method.
Meanwhile, Mohd Azizi announced that the PJ City Bus for route four (PJ04) would go on a new route beginning Aug 1.
"After reviewing the existing ridership for the bus - 1,110 people daily and 20,401 monthly - the council has decided to make some minor adjustment to its route to allow it to cover more of the high density housing areas.
"Hence, from Aug 1 until Oct 31 which is the trial run period for the new route, the route along Jalan SS3/39 would be shortened and going through the new route of Jalan SS3/80, Jalan SS3/29, Jalan SS8/29 and Jalan SS3/39," he said.
Mohd Azizi also urged all property owners, particularly PJU residents, to update their property ownership information with the council as soon as possible because MBPJ is in the midst of updating the council's property ownership record.
"Failure to do so within three months after any change of ownership, the offender could be slapped with a fine up to RM2,000 or jail up to six months or both," he said.
