GEORGE TOWN: Penang DAP has expressed regret over arrest to its secretary general and Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.
Its state chief Chow Kon Yeow said they are also in shock after being told by Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) that Lim will be charged on two count of bribery at George Town Session Court tomorrow.
He, however, stated that there are no charges against Lim on the Taman Manggis case.
"The charges against Lim are politically motivated, and was done to end his political career.
"Penang DAP calls all its members and Malaysians to be calm in facing the problem and wait for the party's instruction," he said in a statement today.
He said Penang DAP will convene an emergency meeting tomorrow to decide on the next course of action to handle this political crisis.
Meanwhile, Penang PKR are solidly behind Lim and urged MACC to conduct the investigation thoroughly and without any political influence.
Its chief Datuk Mansor Othman said from the beginning the mainstream media has relentlessly attack the chief minister over the bungalow issue and showed that the ruling party is adamant with the case.
Lim was detained today by several plainclothes MACC officers about 6.30pm from his office on the 28th floor of the Komtar building.
Prior to the arrest he was chairing the weekly exco meeting there.
