KUALA KANGSAR: In a bid to ensure that residents of Kuala Kangsar are not left behind in any fields, its newly-elected Member of Parliament (MP) Datin Mastura Mohd Yazid pledged to focus on five main agendas.
Mastura, 55, who is the widow of former Kuala Kangsar MP Datuk Wan Mohammad Khair-il Annuar Wan Ahmad, said she would strive to improve the education field, strengthen the tourism sector, create day care centres for the elderly, offer more job opportunities for youth, and seek a better future for women in the area.
"I will do my best for the future and wellbeing of the people of Kuala Kangsar who have given overwhelming support to Barisan Nasional to achieve a very impressive victory in the by-election.
"On the tourism sector in Kuala Kangsar, I will meet with Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz (Minister of Tourism and Culture) to discuss about promoting existing tourism products.
"I see there are improvements that can be made, such as sales of souvenirs and having shuttle services to take tourists around," she said.
Mastura was met after receiving a courtesy call from Wanita MCA chief Datuk Heng Seai Kie and six local non-governmental organisations (NGOs) at the constituency's community service centre here.
The new Kuala Kangsar MP also said she would come up with an integrated plan to realise all the agendas, so that she could meet the demands of people in the constituency.
"I do not want any development or projects brought here to become 'white elephants' and in the end, do not provide any benefit to the local people.
"I will hold more meetings and discussions with residents around Kuala Kangsar to know more about what they want," she said.
In the Kuala Kangsar by-election on June 18, Mastura defeated three other candidates with 6,969-vote majority.
The by-election was called following the death of her husband in a helicopter crash in Sebuyau, Sarawak, on May 5. — Bernama
