Lim Guan Eng to be charged under MACC Act today

GEORGE TOWN: A buzzing atmosphere enveloped the Penang Court Complex, today as Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng (pix) is expected to be charged for offences under the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009.
Entrances to the Penang Court Complex here, are under heavy guard with police keeping a strict eye on those entering and exiting the premises.
Several police roadblocks have also been stationed at roads leading to the complex, as reporters and photographers are on the alert for the arrival of Lim at the building.
The courtroom, where Lim is to face the charges, is filled with reporters, plainclothes policemen, lawyers and a smattering of well wishers.
The DAP secretary-general is facing charges relating to the purchase of a bungalow in Jalan Pinhorn, here from businesswoman Phang Li Koon in 2015.
Phang herself is also expected to be charged today for offences under the MACC Act 2009.
Leading the prosecution is Attorney-General Tan Sri Apandi Ali.
Lim will be represented by counsel Gobind Singh and Ramkarpal Singh while Phang is represented by counsel Datuk K. Kumaraendran and K. Dev Kumar.
