I will remain in PLF, says Mahathir amid possible fund withdrawal

PETALING JAYA: Former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad (pix) stressed that he will continue to remain in his office in the Perdana leadership Foundation (PLF), even if the government decided to pull its funding from the organisation.
In a blog post, Mahathir said most of the staff assigned to the foundation's archive and library in its building in Putrajaya was paid from the foundation's fund through contribution by sponsors.
The government was only there to provide an office and staff for the former prime ministers, said Mahathir, who is the foundation's honorary president.
"Accordingly the government rented space in the Perdana Leadership Foundation for me and a few of my staff," Mahathir said.
Even if the government stops renting space in PLF and refuse to pay government staff accorded to me, I will still be working here in the PLF," he added.
The Umno Supreme Council had on Friday decided that the government should cease funding the foundation, under the pretext that it was used as a centre to topple the government.
Mahathir has been critical against the governance of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak over issues of 1Malaysia Development Berhad and the RM2.6 billion donation.
Mahathir stated that many people had come to visit him in his office in PLF to seek his help, including to voice out their grievances against the government.
"When they are unhappy with the government they seek my help. I never close my door to anyone. That is why after retirement I still go to office as if I am still working," he said.
