KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit closed higher against the US dollar today, tracking the better performance on Bursa Malaysia.
At 5pm, the ringgit was higher at 4.0280/0350 against the greenback from Wednesday's closing of 4.0380/0440.
The benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) finished at 1,654.08, up 11.87 points, or 0.72 per cent, from yesterday's closing of 1,642.21.
A dealer said the gains were however capped by the lower oil prices whereby global benchmark, Brent crude, fell 0.8 per cent to US$50.20 per barrel.
The dealer also said traders stayed cautious on sentiment arising from Britain's exit from the European Union (EU) as the United Kingdom's status remained unknown, causing uncertainty in the economic bloc.
Against other major currencies, the ringgit was traded mostly higher. It rose against the Singapore dollar to 2.9850/9913 from 2.9933/9991 on Wednesday and appreciated against the yen to 3.9171/9251 from 3.9372/9442 previously.
The local unit was lower against the British pound at 5.4293/4412 from 5.4073/4169 on Wednesday and eased against the euro to 4.4791/4873 from 4.4660/4743 previously. — Bernama
