KOTA BARU: Malaysia is currently heading towards the digitalisation of the television broadcasting system which is expected to begin in 2018.
Communication and Multimedia Ministry (KKMM) secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Sharifah Zarah Syed Ahmad said numerous discussions at the ministerial level were being held to realise digital broadcasting.
"Several discussions have been held and we cannot avoid this digitalisation process because anywhere we go in the world today, it is the (digital) world...the digital era.
"Malaysia will be left behind, if we cannot go digital, for example in 2018 as we wish. I am confident we can implement it," she told reporters after breaking fast with orphans, tithe recipients and the state media here yesterday.
Also present were Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) general manager Datuk Zulkefli Salleh, Information Department director-general Datuk Ibrahim Abdul Rahman and Kelantan Federal Development Department (JPP) Datuk Makhtar Mustapha.
The government, prior to this, gave a licence to MYTV Broadcasting Sdn Bhd to develop and manage infrastructure and network facilities for the 'DBBT receiver Consumer Label' service to implement the shift of the national broadcasting system from analogue to digital.
The company also conducted trial broadcasting involving areas in Sabah and Sarawak.
Commenting on the function, Sharifah Zarah said 120 orphans, tithe recipients and Quran memorisation students were feted and they were joined by 200 personnel from numerous agencies under KKMM in Kelantan. — Bernama
