KUALA LUMPUR: Traffic flow was reported to be smooth on major highways in the country as at 8am today although the number of vehicles on the roads has started to increase.
According to a spokesman from the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) traffic flow along the North South Expressway (NSE), East Coast Expressway 1 and 2 was smooth and under control.
"A significant increase in the number of vehicles is expected in the afternoon as city folks begin the Hari Raya Aidilfitri 'balik kampung' exodus," the spokesman told Bernama here today.
"An increase in the number of vehicles on the road will slow down traffic along a number of highways, including the North South Expressway from Slim River to Sungkai and several toll plazas like Gombak heading to the East Coast, Duta Toll plaza heading north, in the afternoon."
According to a Plus Expressway Sdn Bhd Traffic Control Centre spokesman traffic flow was smooth in the morning but traffic congestion on all major highways can be expected in the afternoon.
PLUS has also issued a travel time advisory (TTA) in conjunction with the Hari Raya 'balik kampung' exodus from the city so that motorists can plan their journey accordingly.
The operator of the North-South Expressway (NSE) says the TTA was aimed at preventing vehicles heading towards various destinations from converging at the same location on the highway and contribute to traffic congestion.
