GEORGE TOWN: State police is set to tighten security statewide for the upcoming extended holiday period next week in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
Penang Police Chief Datuk Abdul Ghafar Rajab said there will be a stretch of a five-day holiday period for Hari Raya Aidilfitri, George Town World Heritage Day and also the weekend.
"Police will increase the number of rounds and observations at business places, houses, entertainment outlets and also tourist spots. This is because during the five-day holiday period Penang will be a tourist destination for locals and foreigners and also people coming in to celebrate Hari Raya," he said during a monthly police assembly at the state police headquarters here today.
Abdul Ghafar said the move was to avoid unwanted and unfortunate incidents from occurring in the state like what had happened in Puchong last Tuesday where an explosion at an entertainment outlet injured eight people. — Bernama
