Phelps edges Lochte in 200m medley clash

OMAHA, United States: Michael Phelps out-dueled Ryan Lochte to win the 200m individual medley at the US Olympic swimming trials on Friday to book a second individual berth at the Rio Games.
Phelps, who counts three 200m medley titles among his 18 Olympic gold medals, clocked 1min 55.91sec, vaulting to second in the world rankings as he held off the determined challenge of his longtime foe on the closing freestyle leg.
Lochte was second in 1:56.22, punching his ticket to Rio for a final showdown with Phelps.
David Nolan finished third, more than three seconds adrift. — AFP
