MONSTERS and giant battle suits, fighting in 2018! The second Pacific Rim film has been dated with a US release of February 23, contributing to what could become a bumper month for action movie fans.
Already scheduled for release in February 2018, and assuming no studio adjustments over the next year and a half, are Shane Black's The Predator (Feb 6) and Ryan Coogler's Marvel movie Black Panther (Feb 16).
Joining them for an early 2018 release will be Pacific Rim 2 -- also known as Pacific Rim: Maelstrom -- which has John Boyega of Star Wars: The Force Awakens in the lead role.
Steven S. DeKnight, most closely associated with TV series franchise Spartacus, directs; should the release date hold, Boyega will be following on from December 2017's provisionally titled Star Wars: Episode VIII.
From a production budget of US$190 million (RM490 million), 2013's Pacific Rim generated US$411 million (RM1.64 billion). Original creator and director Guillermo del Toro remains on board with the production team and as the screenplay's author. — AFP Relaxnews
