SERI KEMBANGAN: The Sungai Buloh-Serdang- Putrajaya (SSP) Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) line is scheduled to be completed by 2022 and will drastically reduce traffic congestion in Serdang and Seri Kembangan.
MRT Corp's Director of Strategic Communications and Stakeholder relations Datuk Najmuddin Abdullah said that the economic development in the area in recent times has been "outstanding" and there is also a need to cater to the huge increase in density in the Seri Kembangan and Serdang area.
The SSP route, which will span 37 stops will start in Sungai Buloh to Putrajaya and will go through to the Kuala Lumpur City Centre.
According to Najmuddin, some 319,000 cars pass by the area daily which cause heavy congestion on Jalan Besar, Jalan Utama and the KL-Seremban Highway here.
"With the MRT, it will take 23 minutes to get from Serdang Raya North to Ampang Park," he said in a press conference today, adding that the MRT will serve some 95,000 of the population in the area with a daily ridership of 14,100 passengers, approximately 14.8% of the population.
Also present was Serdang MP Ong Kian Ming who said that he was satisfied at how MRTCorp has carried out their project.
"Stakeholders have been consulted before any agreement was signed and everything was done according to procedure," he said.
He did however add that the public transportation system needs to be unified and integrated apart from being affordable.
