SADAO, Southern Thai: Government officers working in the Malaysian and Thai enforcement agencies along the border should be aware of latest developments in their country, particularly within 100km from the entrance.

Perlis Raja Muda, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail said issues such as security, trade and health were important as they have direct impact on the people in both countries.

"A good communication system is needed so that information can be delivered clearly and it is very important to us to make language as a communications tool and to impart knowledge.

"It will be good if every department at the borders has officers who can read, speak and write the language of each other's neighbouring country," he said at the Aidilfitri 2016 Malaysia-Thailand cookies donation ceremony at Chumchonban Primary School here, yesterday.

The Perlis state government donated cookies to enforcement agencies of both countries such as the police, army, immigration and the customs.
Also gracing the event was Perlis Raja Puan Muda Hajah Tuanku Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil.

Also present were State Legislative Assembly speaker, Datuk Hamdan Bahari; Exco members, Datuk Sabry Ahmad who represented Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azlan Man; Datuk Mat Rawi Kassim; Jafperi Othman; Khairi Hassan; Mat Hassan; and Ahmad Bakri Ali.

Songkhla deputy governor A. Kallat Lee Sen led the senior officials from Thai army, police, immigration, customs and railway at the event.

A good and effective communications could further smooth in solving cases involving international issues such as Daesh terrorists, human trafficking, air and water borne diseases.

"I hope the people of both countries can learn their neighbouring countries' language to foster social integration at the borders. This can be done through teachers transfer programme and language classes," he added.
Tuanku Syed Faizuddin suggested that the Education Ministry consider teaching Thai as the third language at SK Padang Besar (U) as a pilot project.

Earlier, he and the Perlis entourage boarded a train at Padang Besar KTMB station before alighting at Khlong Ngae station in Sadao, about eight kilometres away from the school. — Bernama
