JOHOR BARU: The Johor Petroleum Development Corporation is making efforts to enhance the economy of the people in Pengerang so that they can enjoy the benefits from the Pengerang Integrated Petroleum Complex (PIPC) project.
JPDC chief executive officer Mohd Yazid Jaafar said they have taken various initiatives, including the setting up of the equitable and sustainable community department.
The department launched a community programme to provide jobs and business opportunities to help generate income for local residents, he told Bernama.
He said JPDC would continue with its entrepreneurship programme for the Pengerang community that has been carried out since last year.
Fifty people from Taman Bayu Damai participated in the programme last year and 30 were now successful entrepreneurs, he added.
He said JPDC would also help to find business opportunities for cooperatives in Pengerang.
Among others, he said, it plans to work with Perbadanan Usahawan Johor Berhad to identify cooperatives that could provide food catering service to the workers' camp at PIPC. — Bernama
