Two dead in crash near Sungai Rengit

KOTA TINGGI: A couple was killed in an accident near Sungai Rengit in Penawar this morning.
District police chief Supt Rahmat Othman said the driver of an MPV heading to Sungai Rengit lost control of his vehicle and crashed into another MPV from the opposite side at Km24.5 at about 9.38am.
Initial investigations indicated that the driver of the former MPV might have fallen asleep at the wheel at the time of the incident.
The couple, Abdullah Asri, 60, and his wife, Mariyatu Batang, 51, from Felda Sungai Mas died on the spot due to head injuries.
Other people involved in the crash suffered minor injuries and were sent to Kota Tinggi Hospital for treatment.
The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1957 for causing death by reckless driving.
