Iranian and local police collaborate to crack down Iranian drug traffickers

KUALA LUMPUR: Personnel from the Iranian police force will be stationed at their embassy here in an effort to more effectively crackdown on drug trafficking involving their citizens.
Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) director Commissioner Datuk Seri Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said the decision was made following a meeting between Malaysian and Iranian police who will also exchange intelligence to crackdown on unscrupulous foreign chemists.
"The Iranian police are placing their Narcotics officers in their embassy here.
"The war against drugs will always be the real jihad and not those being professed by terrorists.
"The collaboration between the two countries is part of continued effort to eradicate trans-border drug trafficking," Mokhtar told reporters at a press conference at the Bukit Aman police headquarters here today.
He said the success of the operation in recent years was due to joint-cooperation between the Iranian Anti-Narcotics police and PDRM since 2010.
"We have recorded a decrease in Iranian traffickers — 2014 (42 traffickers), 2015 (27 traffickers) and 2016 (3 traffickers)," he added.
Mokhtar said as of now, 30 Iranian students have been detained by police for other drug related offences nationwide.
Meanwhile, he also stressed that there will be no leniency for corrupted police officers involved in drug related offences in the country.
"You (police) are supposed to fight against drugs, not to work along those involved with it," he said.
Earlier, Iran's anti-drug police deputy chief Brigadier general Morteza Mirzaei met Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.
