SARAJEVO: Bosnia's appeal court upheld on Tuesday a prison sentence against a former Playboy model for laying a honey trap for a Bosnian mafia boss and helping a rival's bid to kill him, prosecutors said.
Slobodanka Tosic (pix) was jailed for two-and-a-half years for arranging a date with gangster Djordje Zdrale in 2006 and betraying him to his archrival Darko Elez, who then attempted to have him murdered.
Zdrale was wounded in the assassination attempt but managed to escape.
Though Zdrale was himself jailed for 20 years for an unrelated murder, he was brought from his prison cell to testify against Tosic who was charged as an accomplice in the plot.
"The prosecutor is satisfied with the verdict that was upheld by the appeal court and (with the) two-and-a-half-year sentence for Slobodanka Tosic," prosecution spokesman Boris Grubesic said.
Tosic's lawyer Vlado Adamovic said she planned to appeal to Bosnia's constitutional court "for procedural reasons".
She had been staying at her parents home in Han Pijesak, eastern Bosnia, following her conviction and pending the outcome of her appeal.
Tosic appeared on the cover of Serbian Playboy in 2008 after moving to the Balkan country and was declared "the girl of the month", according to the magazine's then editor-in-chief.
That year she went on to participate in reality TV show Survivor.
She was awarded the "Miss Bosnia" title aged just 19.
Now 30, Tosic was proven to have belonged to Elez's crime syndicate that was dismantled in 2012.
The group, described by prosecutors as "one of the largest groups of organised crime" in Bosnia, was smashed in a major police operation in September 2012.
A total of 32 people, including Elez, were charged with a number of gangland murders and raids on cash delivery services.
Elez was jailed in Serbia for nine years after being convicted of involvement in organised crime. – AFP
