Car plunges into ravine after Menora Tunnel

KUALA KANGSAR: A driver of a 4WD died while another was injured when their vehicle skidded and plunged into a 50m ravine at Km260.7 of the north-bound lane after the Menora Tunnel of the North-South Expressway near Jelapang here yesterday.
The deceased identified as Muhammad Safiq Dainal Alias, 18, from Kampung Kuala Terap, Kati, Kuala Kangsar died at the scene.
Passenger, Muhamad Nor Hafiz Ridzuan, 29, from Kampung Changkat Jambu, Kati, Kuala Kangsar, broke his legs and was sent to the Kuala Kangsar Hospital.
Kuala Kangsar district police chief Supt Ahmad Termizi Abd Had said the vehicle was travelling from Ipoh to Kuala Kangsar when it skidded and crashed through the road barrier and plunged into the ravine at 5.50pm. The vehicle was negotiating a descending corner on the wet road after rain in the area.
On Sunday, an express bus careened downhill into 10 cars at Km265.8 of the south-bound lane of the same expressway.
Meanwhile, in Kota Tinggi, Bernama reported that a preschool teacher died while her two sons escaped with minor injuries when their car skidded and plunged into a ravine at Jalan Tanjung Sedili-Tenggaroh Selatan 1 and 2, here, yesterday.
District police chief Supt Rahmat Othman said Noor Hafizah Masbol, 37, a single mother, was driving from Tanjung Sedili town towards Felda Tenggaroh Selatan before the incident happened around 6pm. "She lost control of the car which veered into the opposite lane before plunging into a ravine," he said.
