Temple vandals must be caught to end speculation: MIC president

GEORGE TOWN: Speculations by the public in regards to the spate of temple desecration in Penang can only be stop when the culprits responsible are caught by police said MIC president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam.
He said therefore the police force must increase their effort in solving the cases and to ensure the vandalism is not repeated.
"Police must routinely monitor small Hindu temples , and keep their watch so that it won't happen again.
"The defilers must be charge in court and a deterrent sentences would teach a lesson to others too", he said during a visit to the Sri Muneeswarar Temple at Jalan Tengku Kudin earlier today.
On July 10, three statues of deities were damaged at the temple during wee hours in the morning.
The Health Minister also thanked the police for listening to the public cry to monitor temples and the formation of special task force in investigating the matter.
He added police should also advises temples committee on how to increase security level at respective place of worship .
A 45-year-old suspect has been detained in Sungai Dua after he being caught vandalising another Hindu temple in Paya Terubong.
The suspect also admitted to damaging statues of deities at the Hindu temple in Jalan Tengku Kudin here.
