Fake cop fined RM3k for trying to trespass into Bukit Aman with ball-shaped firecrackers

KUALA LUMPUR: A man was fined RM3,000 by the Magistrate's Court here today for being in possession of ball-shaped firecrackers and posing as a policemen while trying to enter the Bukit Aman police headquarters last Tuesday.
Magistrate Mahyudin Mohmad Som meted out the sentence against Mohd Amar Kamarul Zaman, 30, a former contractor, after he pleaded guilty to both charges.
Mohd Amar, who is currently unemployed, was charged with the possession of the explosives in a manner which raised suspicions, in accordance with Section 8 of the Explosives Act 1957 which provides a maximum jail term of seven years or a fine of RM10,000, or both, upon conviction.
For that, he was fined RM500 in default one months' jail.
He was also charged with deliberately posing as a personnel from the Bukit Aman Narcotics Division in front of police officer Mohd Fadzlihaimi Jamaludin, under Section 170 of the Penal Code, which provides for a jail term of up to two years or a fine, or both.
For the offence, Mohd Amar was fined RM2,500 in default three months' imprisonment.
Mohd Amar paid the fines.
He committed both offences at Gate A of the Bukit Aman Police Headquarters in Jalan Bukit Aman, Dang Wangi, here at 10 pm, July 12.
Based on the facts of the case, the accused, who was driving a Honda car, had stopped at the gate and told Mohd Fadzlihaimi, who was there at the time, that he was a personnel from the Semenyih narcotics division and was transferred to Bukit Aman.
However, when asked for his credentials, the accused failed to produce them.
Mohd Fadzlihaimi, 32, then conducted an inspection against the accused and found him to be in possession of seven ball-shaped firecrackers.
The accused, who was unrepresented, pleaded for leniency as he was unemployed and needed to support his mother.
Deputy public prosecutor Nur Farah Adilah Noordin appeared for the prosecution. — Bernama
