GEORGE TOWN: A cloak of sadness enveloped those who attended the funeral of three who were shot in their sleep on early Wednesday morning.
Friends and relatives cried as the coffin bearing the body of a two-year-old boy was wheeled into the crematorium at the Batu Gantung Cemetery today.
His mother, Jess Tan, was visibly sobbing as the coffin entered the chamber about 10am.
An hour later, the remains of Tan Saw Sim, 55, and her son, Chung Wah Tong, 28, were brought into the chamber.
Before being cremated, Chung was given a final farewell where his body was taken on a lap around the race track at the nearby Penang Turf Club in honour of his profession as a jockey.
The three were killed about 2.55am that ill-fated day when a gunman entered their home in Batu Maung and shot them.
Also killed at that time was Toh Hock Choon, 50, who is a friend of Tan.
The shooter was identified as Chung Chun Wah, 32, who is a son of Tan, while police believe the cause may stem from argument over money and drugs.
Chun Wah was shot dead by police on Thursday evening near the market in Air Itam after an exchange of gunfire.
