Zahid lauds missions' role in enhancing Malaysia's profile

NEW DELHI: Continuous efforts and commitment by Malaysian ambassadors and high commissioners in building networking connections with foreign countries have helped to uplift the country's image and recognition on the international stage.
In praising their work, Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said this had allowed Malaysia to enjoy very close ties with other nations as it forged ahead in moulding strong global relations.
"This can be seen when other countries accept our views and proposals on various global issues and hold Malaysians in high regard," he said at a dinner hosted by Malaysian High Commissioner to India Datuk Naimun Ashakli Mohammad on Sunday night.
Ahmad Zahid, who is on a three-day working visit to India, noted that Malaysia had also emerged as an example among Muslim countries.
"In the past we used to seek views and advice from others but now we can assist them or offer help," he said at the dinner organised for members of the Malaysian delegation.
Ahmad Zahid highlighted that when he shared Malaysia's views during international summits and conventions including in his capacity as deputy prime minister and home minister, the country would garner positive response.
He said he was not trying to be boastful or 'riak' in stating this, but this was the truth.
The deputy prime minister reminded Malaysians abroad to always safeguard the country's good name and image.
"Some of us may have differences in views or opinions but it must be put aside for the sake of our country and to ensure that our people can live in peace and harmony," Ahmad Zahid said.
Also in attendance were his wife Datin Seri Hamidah Khamis and senior Malaysian government officials.
Ahmad Zahid arrived here earlier Sunday for the visit aimed to further enhance bilateral ties between Malaysia and India. — Bernama
