KUALA LUMPUR: Police today recorded the statement of Taiping MP Nga Kor Ming over the post on his Facebook page that allegedly insulted Aidilfitri celebrations.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar (pix) said police would study Nga's statement before deciding on any follow-up actions.
"Police will study his (Nga) statement, if we feel that it is not necessary to detain (him), we will not detain.
"We will also investigate whether or not Nga posted the status update," he told reporters after attending Bukit Aman Special Branch Aidilfitri Open House at the Senior Officers Mess here today.
Police had earlier opened an investigation paper under the Sedition Act 1948 and the Penal Code following the report lodged against the MP's Facebook entry.
Bukit Aman CID director Datuk Seri Mohmad Salleh when contacted confirmed that Nga was called to Bukit Aman police headquarters at about 2.30pm today.
In this regard, Nga said he gave his cooperation when his statement on the matter was taken over two hours.
"I am calling on all parties to respect police investigations and allow them to complete the probe," he said. — Bernama
