You won't lose your faith by attending a concert, says DAP youth wing

PETALING JAYA: DAP Socialist Youth wing executive secretary Muhammad Shakir Ameer has hit back at PAS Youth's objection to American pop star Selena Gomez's concert next week, calling the Islamist party's protest "illogical".
Labeling the opposition to the concert scheduled for July 25 as a cheap publicity stunt, Shakir questioned why the party only started protesting against the event at the very last minute.
"PAS Youth should have made known its objections prior to the Home Ministry's approval rather than protesting at the very last minute when tickets have been sold and thousands of ringgit have been spent by promoters for the concert, which is next week," he said in a statement.
Shakir said based on PAS Youth's logic that the concert would destroy the faith and morals of Muslims, it means the Internet, television, radio and any other media should be banned as well for promoting Gomez.
"PAS Youth should acknowledge that Malaysians are able to think and evaluate any form of entertainment for themselves. A person won't lose their faith by attending a concert," he added.
On Monday, PAS Islamic Dakwah Bureau chairman Hafez Sabri expressed his disapproval of the American singer's "sexy" appearance, which he said would "contaminate" the month of Syawal and encourage hedonism among Malaysian youth.
Hafez also urged the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS) to bar Gomez from entering the country and said the government should follow the strict guidelines issued by the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) when approving concerts.
