PETALING JAYA: PKR is not convinced that snap polls are needed in Penang.

PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail told reporters that although they are yet to be convinced, they are ready to continue to have discussions with other component parties within the Pakatan Harapan coalition over the issue.

"Following the party's weekly political bureau meeting, we are of the opinion that we are not convinced over the purpose and reason for DAP to have this snap election," Wan Azizah said during a brief press conference at the party headquarters yesterday.

Met on the sidelines, PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali said that everything is still being discussed.

"One of the agenda discussed in the meeting earlier was a suggestion to have this Penang snap election, which we do not reject, but at the same time we require some clarification or explanation from the state government about the need to have this snap election," Azmin added.

Asked when it would be discussed among other coalition members, Azmin quipped that it would be done in the near future.

Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng who was slated to attend the meeting with several DAP members to present their case to the PKR did not turn up for the meeting.
