New fleet of 33 Rapid Penang double-decker buses to hit the streets beginning Aug 1

GEORGE TOWN: Penang is expected to see a new fleet of 33 Rapid Penang double-decker buses to hit the streets in stages beginning Aug 1.
With a cost of RM1.4 million for each bus, the new buses will ply the three routes on the island next month namely from Pengkalan Weld-Teluk Bahang, Penang International Airport in Bayan Lepas - Teluk Bahang and Pengkalan Weld - Relau.
Prasarana group chairman Tan Sri Ismail Adam, who was present said, these new buses would increase the Rapid Penang bus services to the commuters.
"It could also accommodate 108 passengers in overall," he said in his speech before the launching of the double-decker buses in Esplanade yesterday.
Yang-di Pertua Negri Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas was present at the event to officially launch the fleet of buses accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Abdul Rashid Hasnon.
The new double-decker buses will see a 40% increase of commuters compared to the current buses plying roads in the state.
