KUALA LUMPUR: A private college student was burnt to death when the car he was driving skidded and caught fire at the Loke Yew toll plaza here today.
In the 7am incident, the victim, Rhaveen Sugumaran, 19, was on his way to his college in Kuchai Lama after dropping his mom at Jalan Pantai Baru.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Legal staff officer DSP Shafie Daud said the victim who was driving a Nissan Sentra was believed to be driving on the far right lane before attempting to overtake a car and exit to his left.
"Failing at doing so, he crashed into a concrete divider causing the car to catch fire immediately.
"He was unable to get out of the car on time because he was pinned to his seat," Shafie said when contacted.
Shafie said Rhaveen's body was taken to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital for post mortem and the case was being investigated under the Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Department 1987. — Bernama
