PAS to field candidates if Penang state election is held

ALOR STAR: PAS will field its candidates in each state legislative assembly seat, should there be a snap election in Penang.
Its president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang said although the party was not part of the Pakatan Harapan, it would contest in the state election on a stand-alone basis.
"We have the strength in the state based on the history of the party itself that was established in Penang. DAP and PKR should also realise that they depend on our grassroots support to win in the last general election," he said.
He said this to reporters at the PAS Aidilfitri open house at the Kedah PAS complex," Kota Sarang Semut, today.
In the meantime, Abdul Hadi said PAS did not rule out the possibility of working with a new party to be formed by former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, if it did not contradict with PAS's struggle to uphold Islam.
He said PAS had previously taken the step to work with all parties, on condition that they did not interfere with the PAS' Islamic principles.
"We do not interfere with DAP policy, but instead they (DAP) has interfered in PAS policy. We are firm in this matter and they decided to quit Pakatan Rakyat that was then followed by PKR.
"PAS remains consistent with the policy that we have been championing since our early days. The third block created by PAS has worked with more than 50 non-governmental organisations and one political party," Abdul Hadi said. — Bernama
