Guan Eng doesn't want focus on 1MDB 'to be swayed'

GEORGE TOWN: Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng today said that he does not want the focus on 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) issue to be shifted.
He said the warning issued by Attorney-General Tan Sri Apandi Ali urging him not to comment on criminal charges he faced has been answered by his legal counsel Gobind Singh Deo.
He said he will let Apandi to respond to his counsel's statement as there was a bigger national issue to focus on.
"I do not want attention from 1MDB be swayed away," he told reporters after attending the state-level Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house at SPICE.
Also present were Yang di-Pertua Negri Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas and his consort Toh Puan Majimor Shariff.
Lim was responding to Apandi's reported call asking him not to comment on charges he faced.
However, Gobind in a statement, had said his client can explain to the people on why he claimed trial and professed innocence after being charged for graft and abuse of power last month.
Asked on the possible cooperation between PAS and PKR if state snap poll is called, Lim said there are only DAP, PKR and Amanah in the state without elaborating further.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Rashid Hasnon said the matter of cooperation with the Islamist party will also be discussed during PKR's weekly political bureau meeting in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday.
"There is not much difference. We maintain with our status quo and the matter will be brought up in the meeting," he said, adding he will also raise the seat allocation matter.
