Weightlifter Nurul Nazira wins first gold medal for Kelantan

KUCHING: Nurul Nazira Md Nazri today gifted the Kelantan contingent with their first gold medal in the Malaysia Games (Sukma) when she won in the women's 48kg category.

The state's full time weightlifter lifted 56kg to take the gold while Marthini Chan of Sarawak won the silver and Nur Syafiqah Athirah Zaridi of Kedah won the bronze.

"I did not expect to do well in the snatch as hoped. I am really happy because I did not expect to win," she said when met at the competition venue at Dewan Jublee, Universiti Teknologi Mara Sarawak, Kota Samarahan, here today.

According to Nurul Nazira, 18, her personal best was 57kg in the snatch and 73kg in the clean and jerk.
Meanwhile, T. Logassree, 14, of Penang won an unexpected gold medal in the clean and jerk when she lifted 71kg.

"I just want to win medals, regardless of the colour. I am very happy with this gold medal," said the form two student of Bukit Mertajam Convent School.

The silver and bronze medals were won by two athletes from Terengganu, Nurul Afiqah Muhammad Zamzuri and Siti Noralyaa Matt Marzuki, who lifted 70kg.

Nurul Afiqah was awarded the silver based on the difference in body weight. — Bernama
