MORGAN has chosen the upcoming Salon Privé classic car show at Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire, which this year takes place September 1-3, as the venue for the global unveiling of the 1909 Edition EV3 -- an electric car that blends craftsmanship with haute couture.
All Morgan cars are hand-built, but for this particular model, conceived as a celebration of the company's 107th anniversary, the sportscar maker has enlisted the help of storied British department store and fashion retailer Selfridges.
Based on the standard EV3 the new car will have an electric motor, a range of 120-150 miles between recharges and a top speed of 90mph but unlike a normal EV3, the UK 1909 Edition EV3 will boast a unique exterior and interior informed by Selfridges' fashion expertise and underpinned by Morgan's bespoke approach to building cars.
Morgan Motor Company's head of design Jon Wells said: "Great British design, technology and engineering is what the UK 1909 Edition EV3 is all about." It's also why the two companies have enlisted nine other respected British brands, including Alexander McQueen and Belstaff to create the equally bespoke driving kit that will come with each of the 19 examples planned for production.
"The combination of engineering, style and design seen with the UK 1909 Edition EV3 lends itself to be unveiled at Salon Privé," said event co-founder David Bagley. "[It is an] event that combines cars, glamour and fashion at one of Britain's most glamorous locations."
Once the car has met its public on September 1 it will be going on show at Selfridges in Birmingham on October 1 and at Selfridges London Oxford Street on November 1 where potential owners can get up close and personal with the car.
Despite its inherent rarity, the fact that it will be completely hand-built and that due to the involvement of so many admired brands it will go on to be a future collector car, the UK 1909 Edition EV3 will only cost £52,500 (RM280,822) when order books open. That must make it one of the world's most affordable bespoke cars. — AFP Relaxnews
