BUTTERWORTH: Penang chief minister Lim Guan Eng is dragging the entire Pakatan Harapan (PH), including DAP and PKR, into his personal corruption charges, which is unethical and a mere manipulation of democracy, said MCA Penang State Liaison Committee deputy chairman Tan Teik Cheng (pix).
Tan, who is also MCA central committee (CC) member, said Lim was charged because of his personal integrity and honesty and thus he should not drag the whole Penang state into his corruption charges.
He said Lim, who is DAP secretary-general, should prove his innocence in court rather than resorting to dissolution of state assembly and snap polls, which is costly and meaningless, since he kept stressing of upholding justice for himself.
He added the result of the snap polls will not become the evidence to convict or release Lim.
Meanwhile, Penang Gerakan Batu Maung constituency coordinator Dr Kiew Hen Chong, in a press statement, said Lim and DAP supporters should not use public views to pressure or affect the court decision over his corruption charges.
"Lim will get justice if he does not do so. Therefore, Lim and the DAP supporters should keep silent until the court decision is made," he said.
Lim is accused of using his position as Chief Minister to obtain gratification for himself and his wife Betty Chew by approving an application to convert two lots of agricultural land for residential purposes during a state planning committee meeting on July 18, 2014.
He also faces a charge for using his position to obtain gratification by purchasing his bungalow from businesswoman Phang Li Koon for RM2.8mil, which was below the property's market value of RM4.27mil on July 28, 2015.On June 30, Lim was charged in relation to investigations over his purchase of a bungalow, which was allegedly linked to the sale of state land under Section 23 of the MACC Act and Section 165 of the Penal Code.
