GEORGE TOWN: DAP will uphold the spirit of consensus within Pakatan Harapan (PH) by waiting for the green light from its allies before proceeding with snap polls in Penang, said party secretary-general Lim Guan Eng (pix).
He said DAP was waiting for a decision from PKR and Amanah on whether they support the state election's proposal mooted by him.
Lim said DAP wants to ensure it will be a PH decision agreed by all parties instead of calling for a unilateral decision on the proposed snap polls.
"We want to show that we are a reliable partner in PH, " he said at a press conference today.
Lim added DAP would not make any decision on the poll itself but added that other parties in the pact may have done so previously.
Citing the by-elections in Permatang Pauh, Penanti, and Kajang held in the past, he recalled, that PKR had made unilateral decisions previously.
He, however, said DAP had supported them back then as a Pakatan partner and expressed hopes that a unanimous decision will be reached soon.
Lim also reiterated that the possible state election is to get a new mandate from the people following the charges he faced in court.
"I do not think I can be safe," he quipped, adding that people should be given a chance to decide for themselves on what they want.
Earlier, at the wake of Puan Sri Chui Kah Peng, wife of former Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr. Koh Tsu Koon, state legislature assembly speaker and Bukit Tengah assemblyman Datuk Law Choo Kiang told reporters PKR will be having a meeting romorrow night at party's headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.
He said state PKR leaders are invited to attend the meeting scheduled at 8.30pm.
Law dismissed talk that PKR is holding the final card on the snap polls, adding that it would be a joint decision among PH parties.
