Miri City gets new mayor and deputy mayor

    MIRI: Sarawak United People's Party's (SUPP) Publicity and Information Secretary Adam Yii Siew Sang will be appointed as the third Mayor of Miri City since 2005.

    The 60-year old Yii who holds a degree in Geology from Universiti Malaya (UM) said he had received the official letter on the appointment today.

    "The official ceremony for the appointment of mayor, deputy mayor and 32 councillors will be on Friday," he told Bernama here today.

    On his priority after taking charge, he said, improving the delivery services of the Miri City Council (MMC) will be among his two priorities.

    "We have to sort (improving delivery services) very quickly," he said.

    As for his second priority, he said, it was aimed at further enhancing the image of Miri City in line with its tagline as the resort city of Sarawak.

    Yii replaced lawyer Lawrence Lai Yew Son who was the city mayor from 2009 until June 30, 2016.

    Miri City's first mayor, Datuk Wee Han Wen was appointed after Miri was elevated city status on May 20, 2005.

    Beside Yii there will be a new deputy mayor for Miri City, namely Parti Pesaka Bumiputera (PBB) Piasau chairman Julaihi Mohamad, who replaces Mohd Chee Kadir.

    Chee was elected Kabong assemblyman in the May 7 state election. — Bernama
