PKR still unconvinced about need for Penang snap polls

PETALING JAYA: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) has not made a decision on the need for snap polls in Penang.
"We are still not convinced on the purpose or objective of having a snap election in Penang," its president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail (pix) said after the party's central leadership committee meeting held at its headquarters here yesterday.
Wan Azizah said the decision was made after a thorough study, including taking civil society's view on the matter.
"However, in the spirit of friendship, we are ready to continue the talks with other parties in Pakatan Harapan," she added.
Wan Azizah added PKR will send its highest leadership delegates to DAP to explain the party's decision.
The DAP had proposed to hold snap elections in Penang to gauge public support towards Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, who was charged with alleged corruption.
Its national organising secretary Anthony Loke, however, said the proposal needed the consensus of the other Pakatan Harapan component parties.
