IPOH: Two doctors were fined RM10,000 each by the Sessions Court today after changing their plea to guilty over charges of making false declarations in the Road Transport Department's vocational licence L8 application form, three years ago.
Dr Phuah Chye Thuang, 62, and Dr Fong Hon Pin@Poon Hon Pin, 68, would be jailed for six months if they failed to pay the fine.
Both men had pleaded not guilty when charged on Jan 5, for validating medical check-up done for individuals to renew Class D driver's licence that enables them to drive public service vehicles, when in fact no examination had taken place.
Dr Phua allegedly made a false declaration in the application form for Mohd Firdaues Azizan, 33, at Jalan Klinik Phuah, Jalan Takong Datoh, Gerik, while Dr Fong did the same for S. Suppiah Thevar, 36, at Klinik Simee, Kampung Simee, here.
They were alleged to have committed the offences on March 7, 2013, and charged under Section 465 of the Penal Code which provides for imprisonment of up to two years, or a fine, or both, on conviction.
Meanwhile, outside the court, N.Sakhtivel, who represented Dr Phuah, said Judge S.Indra Nehru wanted the proceedings to be held behind closed doors in accordance with Section 172 of the Criminal Procedure Code, which outlines the procedures for negotiations for a confession.
Dr Fong was represented by Meor Shahzizi Meor Shaari while DPP Nurul Wahidah Jalalluddin led the prosecution. — Bernama
