All aglow in Zumba fun

IT'S GOING to be a fun-filled night packed with lots of great vibes and music, as Watsons returns with its annual Move Your Body Zumba event this Oct 22 at the Sunway Lagoon Surf Beach.
After hosting the country’s biggest Zumba event last year in Penang which saw over 7,000 participants, this leading health and beauty chain store in Asia plans to make this year’s event even more exciting, with the theme Glow in the Night.
Playing hosts throughout the night will be hitz.fm announcers Ean and Arnold, while providing the beats will be some of Malaysia’s top deejays such as Jakeman & Skeletor, Leng Yein, Chukiess & Whackboi as well as H3, who will be spinning high-energy Zumba tracks for participants to dance the night away.
Leading the Zumba charge will be Zumba Fitness from the international organisation in the United States, led by Zumba education specialists David Velez from Colombia and Michael Thomas from Australia.
According to Watsons Malaysia chief operating officer Caryn Loh, the annual Zumba event is an illustration of the brand staying true to its promise to ‘Look Good, Feel Great’, which is also a continuous effort by Watsons to promote fitness and health among Malaysians.
And theSun is coming onboard as one of the official media partners for this event.
Zumba is a high-energy aerobic activity suitable for all ages. It involves moving to a combination of dance moves that work the entire body, burns calories in large amounts, and increases metabolism, as well as improves cardiovascular health.
Watsons Malaysia marketing head Danny Hoh said: “It’s going to be fun … [participants] are going to also be in the water, so there will be splashing … [and] glowing in the dark, and while Zumba-ing, they will be accompanied by deejays spinning, instead of just playback music.
“Last year, it was [held] on a huge field in Penang, so [there were over] 7,000 people, but since we are holding it at a smaller venue [this year], we’re expecting around 5,000 people.”
Hoh added that this year is not exactly about the numbers because it’s a different concept altogether from last year’s.
He said they do not plan to beat the previous record of hosting the biggest Zumba gathering in the country, but instead aim to make the upcoming event the first beach Zumba event in Malaysia.
“This year is more about having fun and spontaneity, and there is a very different ambience on the beach here at night.”
The performing deejays have promised exciting tracks to ‘electrify’ the atmosphere for both the instructors and participants all night long.
