PETALING JAYA: Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar, has denied that he made a statement against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak.
In a posting on his official Facebook page, Sultan Ismail said his name has been misused by an irresponsible party to comment about politics.
“I came to know about the irresponsible posting being circulated on social media recently, titled 'Terkini Ringgit Jatuh RM4.4' and want to make it clear that no such statement was ever issued by me or my office.
“I regard this action as defamatory and reprehensible. Of late, there have been a number of ridiculous statements circulating on social media, with the impression given that these statements were issued by various members of the royal family,” he said.
He added that the royal family uses social media as a medium to reach out and stay connected with Johoreans and regrets that there are those who misuse social media to seek attention.
He also urged social media users to first verify the source and its authenticity before joining the ‘bandwagon’ and circulating false statements from dubious sources.
“On all matters pertaining to national-level politics, the Johor Royal Palace maintains a position of strict neutrality.
“Any statements issued by any member of the Johor royal family will only be done so through our official Facebook accounts,” he added.
