KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim (pix) is projected to helm the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) replacing current chief commissioner Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohamed who officially steps down from the position on Monday.
theSun learnt from sources that four officials, namely Noor Rashid and the other three candidates from - the Attorney-General Chambers, the judiciary and MACC were shortlisted for the top seat as MACC chief commissioner.
However, sources said it was highly likely that Noor Rashid would be chosen to assume the position.
When contacted by theSun, Noor Rashid said he was unaware of being chosen as a candidate for the top MACC post.
"I am yet to receive any call about such an appointment. I have no idea where this news is coming from." he said.
The 58-year-old top cop was promoted to his current position in 2014 following the retirement of former deputy IGP Tan Sri Mohd Bakri Zinin.
Known to be a strict, no-nonsense officer, Noor Rashid's achievements in crime-busting were impressive even from his early days in the police force.
Prior to assuming his current position, the former director of the Narcotics Crime Investigations Director (NCID) went on an all-out blitz against druglords which led to the department achieving its biggest success ever in the seizure of hundreds of million ringgit worth of narcotics in police history.
On June 23, Abu Kassim served a one-month notice to relinquish his position, citing he had made three earlier applications to step down and not a result of being pressured to do so by any quarters.
