KUALA LUMPUR: Toss away valuables when faced with attempted theft and always aim for an attacker's weak points were some of the takeaways at Berjaya's lunch talk today.

Aptly titled "Empowering Self With Sound Protection" for Berjaya Group's employees, the short talk discussed safety measures that can be taken which could potentially safe one's life when attacked.
The speaker, Justin Hong from Active Bugs has developed several programs on personal protection which he co-created and co-designed with his Jujitsu Master, Master Francis Albert who holds a 5th Dan Black Belt in Jujitsu.
"When someone is trying to robs you and demands for your valuables, toss it away and run in the opposite direction. Never hand it over because you would be giving your attacker an opportunity to demand more and even injure or kidnap you," he said.
Some other key tips were to always carry a pepper spray and know how to use it or carry a personal alarm.
"If you find yourself kidnapped and thrown into the booth of a car, kick the tail lights out and wave your hands. Your attacker will not be able to see you, but everyone else will," he added.
Hong also demonstrated simple self defence movements to be used when needed. These moves use a person's weight and strength to overcome the assailant and to target the person's weak spot like throat, ankles, knees and genitals.
