To rally or to not rally, Pakatan asks itself

PETALING JAYA: Talks of a "political action" being taken by Pakatan Harapan (PH) if Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak and the Cabinet fail to meet its demands by tomorrow have all but died down.
The coalition's presidential council had last Thursday threatened to mobilise the people in a political action on Saturday (July 30) if Najib and his government fail to carry out its three demands, including for the prime minister to take leave from office immediately.
These calls came in light of the United States Department of Justice's (DoJ) initiation of civil suits relating to state investment arm 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
The other two demands were for the Cabinet to call for a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) comprising individuals with no links to those implicated in the matter, and for an emergency parliamentary sitting to be called for Najib to provide full explanation on the issue to all MPs.
However, with just one day before the supposed political action was taken, all signs point to a non-action.
A source from PH told theSun that no decision has been made by the coalition on any immediate action being taken this Saturday, but that it was looking forward to other alternatives in the near future.
Bersih 2.0 chairman Maria Chin Abdullah had, last Friday, also hinted a possible Bersih 5 rally being held in light of US DoJ's fresh allegations.
She said the electoral watchdog did not rule out the possibility of organising another rally following the latest development involving 1MDB, but said further discussions with various NGOs needed to be done before any conclusion or dates could be finalised.
Former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has also expressed his desire for a peaceful rally to be held to demand for Najib, who is also Finance Minister, to step down.
The previous Bersih 4 rally, which was held overnight on the eve of the country's National Day, from Aug 29 to 30 last year, gathered some 100,000 Malaysians in the capital city.
