SHAH ALAM: Police have nabbed three suspects for alleged involvement in car thefts and seized two fake pistols today.
Shah Alam police chief ACP Shafien Mamat said the suspects were picked up in two separate locations around Section 15 here at about 3.30am.
"The arrests were made following a public tip off earlier on Wednesday at about 7.15am where we (police) received a distress call informing us that a Toyoya Alphard was found at a parking space in Section 15 with the driver door left open," he said at the Shah Alam district police headquarters today.
A task force was immediately sent to the location and police found a fake pistol in the car.
"Registration number of the vehicle belongs to a local who is also staying in Shah Alam. Following the seizure of the pistol in the car, police nabbed two men who were locals not too far from the area where the Alphard was parked," Shafien added.
Upon interrogation, police arrested another local at Batu Tiga here and seized a fake pistol and few break-in equipment from his residence.
The suspects have been remanded until Saturday and the case is being investigated under Section 36 (1) of the Firearms Act 1960, which carries one year jail term or RM5,000 fine or both, upon conviction.
Earlier, a picture of police personnel manning Section 15 area for a shooting case was circulated on social media and caused a stir among netizens.
Shafien assured the public that no shooting incident had taken place in the area.
